And with new and more efficient models being pumped out on what seems like a yearly basis, it's no surprise that one of their premium products finished 2022 among the best-selling electric cars in the USA with 22,982 new registrations for the year.
6. Tesla Model S
The presence of Tesla is strong and dominant on this list. And that's evident by the fact that the brand's now old Model S is still an ultra-popular choice for those in the market for electric sedans. With 28,942 new registrations in 2022, the Model S is still going strong more than a decade into its production run.
5. Tesla Model X
Topping the Model S by a few thousand, the cool Tesla SUV had the brand's second-lowest sales figures for 2022 with 36,500 units registered.
4. Chevy Bolt
With two EV variations (Bolt EV and Bolt EUV), the Chevy compact vehicle has become a popular choice for those looking for the best bang for the buck. All told, a total of 38,120 units of the Bolt were registered last year.
3. Ford Mustang Mach-E
The Mach-E has been somewhat of a controversial offering from the Blue Oval, given the fact that it bears the legendary Mustang nameplate as an electric SUV. But those characteristics are exactly what customers gravitated towards, making the Mach-E the best-selling EV that's NOT a Tesla, with 39,485 new units registered in the US in 2022.

The lowest-priced Tesla product is unsurprisingly in the upper echelon of best-selling EVs of 2022. And the compact sedan's figures best those of the next car on the list (Mach-E) by a landslide. With just over 200,000 units registered for the year, the Model 3 was a huge earner for the company.

But the one vehicle that was even more popular in 2022 than the Model 3 basically a taller version of the Model 3, the Model Y. 243,834 new units were registered last year, which is an impressive number not only for electric cars, but for automobiles in general.
