New EV Crossover

More details about the upcoming GV60 electric crossover from Genesis have been released. And there's a lot of exciting information to unpack from the manufacturer's video press conference. The new Genesis is slated for a rollout in 2022. But availability may be limited in the early stages.

Eye-Catching Style

With a compact crossover stature, the GV60 has allowed the Genesis designers and engineers to give the car a sleek, sporty profile. Don't be fooled, though, this EV is not lacking in terms of interior and cargo space, thanks to Hyundai's e-GMP battery platform. The GV60 features a daring style with concept-esque elements. But the Genesis DNA remains, with the presence of the quad headlights and taillights, as well as the crest grille. The upper window trim is broken at the C-pillar, creating a V shape, which Genesis pointed out as the 'volt' motif with enthusiasm.

Familiar Interior

The interior of the new Genesis follows a similar blueprint as that of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. The dashboard features large screens across the front and the center console is a floating volume between the front seats. There are side-view cameras with corresponding screens on the inside of the doors to replace the traditional mirrors.

Keyless... Everything

The GV60 has been designed with systems that allow for facial recognition for vehicle entry and a biometric fingerprint scanner to turn the car on and start driving. Mimicking smartphone technology often proves useful in-vehicle applications.

Power And Range

The parent company's e-GMP platform features a  77.4kWh battery pack, and rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants will be available. The single motor RWD version will boast 225 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, with a range of 280 miles. The first of the two AWD models will have 314 horsepower and 446 lb-ft, and an estimated 249 miles of driving range. The line-topping dual-motor version is capable of 429 horses and 446 lb-ft, with the estimated range coming in at 229 miles.

Lux and Fun

The GV60 isn't designed to be a boring luxury crossover, though. In fact, the vehicle is engineered with a Boost Mode, which allows for a quick launch that achieves a 0-60 time of just 4 seconds. Additionally, there will be a drift mode available! Unusual for a family vehicle, but certainly a welcome addition in the spirit of fun!

Charging

The vehicle can be charged with 400 or 800-volt architecture. The more potent chargers will reportedly charge the battery up from 10 to 80 percent in less than 20 minutes. There is also a future possibility to introduce wireless charging, with  Hyundai Motor Group working in collaboration with WiTricity to bring the technology into production.
