From the Future

At the moment, those seeking an all-electric motorcycle don't have a ton to choose from. Sure, Zero offers an array of models, and Harley has the LiveWire, but that's mostly it for now. However, there are many more EV bikes on the way in the coming years, including the newly revealed, hydrogen-powered Segway Apex H2.

Concept to Reality?

Segway is best known for its strange-looking two-wheeled pedestrian haulers dubbed the HT and PT, but these days, it's making all kinds of cool vehicles. For now, the Apex H2 is just a concept, but it's certainly an appealing one that very well could one day make it to production.

Benefits of Hydrogen

The Apex H2 is a bit different than its predecessor, the Apex, in that it now packs a hydrogen fuel cell and sports one heck of a futuristic design. The hydrogen tanks are refillable and swappable, which would obviously make refueling much quicker than a conventional electric motorcycle, though it's questionable where, exactly, you'd be able to find a station to do so.

Floating in Air

The Apex H2 reportedly produces 60 kW, or 80 horsepower, and is capable of doing 0-62 in four seconds with a top speed of 93 miles per hour. If nothing else, it certainly looks the part, with a radical design that features two single-sided swingarms, which makes the wheels look like they're floating in the air when viewed from the right side.

Coming Soonish

For now, Segway says that it will indeed build the Apex H2, with initial deliveries beginning in 2023. It will be priced starting at $10,700, which puts it smack in the middle of the existing competition, though it's the only hydrogen-powered electric bike out there at the moment.

One Big Question

The biggest question mark surrounding the Apex H2, however, is where will the people who buy it be able to purchase hydrogen to refuel it? Outside of a handful of stations, mostly located in California, there just isn't much infrastructure to support such a thing. But we'll just have to wait and see if that changes in the next two years or so.
